Franzen out with sprained MCL
Nov 27, 2006
Tests on Red Wings forward Johan Franzen have revealed medial collateral ligament damage in his left knee.
"They didn't do another MRI; I guess they had someone different look at it, and there was a little bit of fluid," coach Mike Babcock said Monday after the morning skate. "I guess what that tells you is that there might be a one-plus or a two-minus MCL sprain. That means he's not playing and not available for a while. I don't see him for the weekend for sure."
Franzen was injured last Wednesday in the first period of the game against Vancouver. Franzen had just dropped a pass when Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchell ran into him, shoulder to jaw. Franzen collapsed backwards, gloves flying, suffering a concussion and twisting his left knee.
Babcock said there are no more issues regarding the concussion: "Everything is fine with his head."

Oh, lord! That jackass Willie Mitchell should be suspended 15 games and fined $950,000 for the hit on Franzen. He could've ended Franzen's career before it even started. As I've said before, I love hockey, but intent to injure checks are ILLEGAL as I know about. Torres shouldn't even be able to step foot onto the ice for the dispicable hit on Jason Williams. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Colin Campbell need to have a look at these hits and meet with the referees of the games, in order to enforce that rule. I really hate players who purposely play to injure other marquee players of any organization.
