Jersey retirement brings back heroes

Dec 28, 2006

Several former hockey heroes will be on hand to see Steve Yzerman's No.19 retired at Joe Louis Arena on Jan. 2.

The Wings announced on Thursday that the following people will attend the jersey retirement ceremony: Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Ted Lindsay, Danny Gare, Brett Hull, Igor Larianov, Mike Vernon, Steve Duchesne, Larry Murphy, Joe Kocur and Doug Brown. Former coaches Scotty Bowman and Dave Lewis, as well as former assistant coach Barry Smith, will also attend.

The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. and Wings are encouraging fans to arrive early for special giveaways.

This looks like a GREAT night to be @ the Joe and I'd love to be. Unfortunately, no tix are available to the average (one who can't afford to pay $200+ per ticket) fan of the Wings/Stevie Y.

If someone does have 2 extras that they want to make sure a true fan ends up with, contact me at redwingmike55@yahoo.com.

If not, I hope you all enjoy the night, the ceremonies and the retirement of a true Red Wing hero. I'll be there (if only in spirit) on the 2nd.

There will never be another Stevie Y!!
