Red carpets rolled out, vacuumed
Jan 1, 2007
It was easy to tell today that something big is about to happen at Joe Louis Arena - despite it being New Year's Day there were dozens of workers present, preparing for tomorrow's big jersey retirement ceremony for former captain Steve Yzerman. Several red carpets were being vacuumed, and spotlights were being tested. .... Defenseman Chris Chelios (shin) practiced for a second straight day but remains questionable for the Ducks game. The Ducks, meanwhile, will be without big defenseman Chris Pronger, who is out with a broken foot.

Stevie Y should be immortalized in the game of hockey. He was a Detroit (and still remains) area icon. Even though his last game was up in Edmonton, every fan has at least one wonderful memory of Steve Yzerman. That man was and still is a class act of a human being.
