Joey's revenge is sweet

Nov 25, 2006

I couldn't help but laugh for Joey Harrington as he whipped up on the Lions. This town's obsession with Joey is almost scary. Whatever you think about the guy, he always kept it pretty classy. I don't think he's ever going to be a superstar but he could become a decent QB in Miami.  JOEY, JOEY.

Harrington PIMPED the Lions. Hilarious!

It was really great to see Harrington triumph here, especially with the ridiculous fixation of the media and fans here on beating him. In spite of all the losses here, and the constant blame being heaped upon him - Joey was always the picture of class during his tenure in Detroit. Never blaming his teammates, always accepting responsibility - even when clearly he wasn't the only or even main problem. The only thing that would have been more satisfying during the Thanksgiving game, would have been if Joey would have had cause and opportunity to tackle Dre Bly and shut his big mouth. But -- even so it was perfect the way it was. We may someday be Lions fans again (though not anytime soon the way things are going) -- but we'll always be Harrington fans and wish good things for him.

Joey's triumphant return is yet more proof that the Lions' problems goes far deeper than the players themselves. I'm glad Joey is having success in Miami, it's just too bad he had to leave Detroit to do so.

The Lions are a sad, sad football organization. I've followed them closely ever since they had a winning record way back with Fontes, but this past offseason and this season they have shown that they are dedicated to being a losing team and they have fallen from my interest. I even had season tickets, but not this year, and probably not again for a long time. But I'm sure someone else has those season tickets now, we sure love to cheer on the underdog. And some folks are eternal hometown football fans. It sucks for them that they live here.

Over the few years I had season tickets, there was a pattern, or mentality, that I had noticed amongst other season ticket holders: they hated the Lions and everything they did was wrong! Yet, they bought their season tickets year after year to sit in the stadium 8 times a year, complaining the entire time. With the exception of a couple good players, everyone was the wrong person for the position, from the teams ownership down to the guys handing out water on the sidelines.

As I sit and watch the Lions TRY to compete in the NFL I wonder to myself every week, "why do I spend the money on the NFL Sunday Ticket". When I moved to Florida 7 years ago, satelite TV was the first thing on my list of things to do. At $250 a season and not even getting to .500 I am getting ripped off. Maybe I can sue the team and recoup the money I spent on watching them. Maybe I can also get back the $300 I spent on the Lions tattoo I have.
I have always been a loyal and faithful Lions fan, win or lose, but damnit can't they figure out what it takes to win?
After the game on Thursday it was plain to see that Joey wasn't the problem. After they fired Mariucci, Clark, Rogers, Ross, Mornhinweg, Moeller and Fontes,(not in that order) it has become clear that they weren't the problem. At the end of the season when they fire Marinelli, we can add him to the list of people "not the problem". I have figured out what the problem is with the Lions.
Ford Motor Company is failing and losing money all the while the Ford Family continues to get HUGE saleries and need tax write-offs.
It is my humble opinion that William Clay Ford should sell the team as long as he finds a buyer in Michigan. Maybe if Dick DeVos hadn't spent so much money on a shot at the gov. office he could have bought them. The only problem with that is he would probably want to change the name of the team to the Detroit Soapers or maybe the Ada Lions. Hell, move the team to West Michigan and build the new "Amway Dome"! I say why-the-hell not, they couldn't do any worse than the present management has done.

How many Lions have we seen move on to greener pastures ? Lomas Brown; Ray Crokett; Big Play Willie Clay; Charlie Batch all of these former Lions have gone on to win Superbowl Rings. Good for Joey Harrington... Miami has a starting QB, we get a 6th round pick so our unqualified GM can pick another 5 ft 4 in DB or Safety. Way to go Matt boy, maybe Mr.Ford will give you another raise since Joey's team was held under 30 pts... atleast he didn't drop 40 like Manning or Vick did on previous Thanksgivings.

It would be a big mistake for the Lions to let Marinelli or any member of his staff go anywhere. They, especially the offensive side of the ball, have shown great improvement over years past. They actually move down the field now for a change instead of sideline to sideline like in the past. Just think what it'll be like when Martz has an NFL Offensive line to work with. The defensive staff needs aal kinds of new talent in order to improve. As long as the Fords can do like Mike Illitch did and get rid of their version of Randy Smith and hire a great talent evaluator like Dave Dombrowski for the Lions they should keep the ownership intact. It's more than obvious that Millen is doing more damage than he is good and doesn't evaluate talent worth a hoot. The first move they should make is to fire the whole scouting staff and concentrate on building a strong scouting staff like the Cowboys and Patriots have. When they have a bad seasons they only last a couple of years and they are back in the playoffs. That's the kind of talent staff we need. Good riddens Millen.

It is amazing how good a quarterback like harrington can look when he has good line in front to protect him.

I am glad to see another "former Lion" QB is doing GREAT. That seems to be the history for the Lions. Until this team is sold out from under the Ford family and a REAL ownership is brought in with real Football people running the program, this team will remain the joke of the NFL. Thank goodness for the Redwings and the Tigers.

Joey's joyous return jarred the jarheads in the defensive line as he strong-armed his way towards a redemptive victory. Much mocked and mercilessly maligned by motor city miscreants, Harrington hustled and hurdled all obstacles to help hearken a vicarious victory for the visiting team. Who ate turkey that day? Everyone. Who ate crow? Matt "overstuffed, dressed up but as of yet led to the slaughter" Millen. This Millenthropic Giblet needs to hop or be pushed off of Detroit's Gravy train before he tips over the gravy boat completely. Ford needs to fire this west coast offender before he effectively frees all talent from this failure of football fiasco. Only then can we rebuild the Lions into a lean, mean, winning machine.

Apparently the Fords continue to run their football team the same way they are running their automobile business. Poorly.

Mr Millen,
You tried, but you are clearly not the man for the job. You have to realize when you are hurting an organization instead of helping it. I admire your determination, but you need to see that you are in over your head. The record speaks for itself. Ford won't fire you, we know that because he doesn't care as long as idiots like me buy tickets. Do the right thing and step down. While you have an ounce of dignity left, the longer you stay on the more it looks like you just want the money. Face the facts, you are bad at being a GM

Comment by PDOG | 11/29/06 at 12:35 PM

Maybe we should get someone from Toyota to show Mr. Ford how a football team should be ran. They seem to kick his a$$ in the business world I am sure they could figure out football too.

Comment by RyanWM4 | 11/29/06 at 5:01 PM

How long do you think it will be before Ford offers 40% of the Lion's roster buyouts?

Comment by Steve | 11/29/06 at 8:16 PM

when is everyone gonna figure out MILLEN is NOT the problem? you can call for FIRE MILLEN all day long! but you will just get another loser to replace him! they are all puppets for Mr. Ford...THE REAL PROBLEM!!! until he sells the team, this will go on and on and on....

Comment by Boycott Ford | 11/30/06 at 12:35 PM

Millen and Ford are the perfect duo... their incompetence rivals our President's. One has run Detroit's football team into the ground, the other runs a huge part of Detroit's auto industry into the ground (and pays the other guy to run Detroit's football team into the ground).

Matt Millen... admit that you are a loser, and save some face by quitting. You are this close (if not already considered) to being the worst GM in NFL history, ever.

Comment by fireMillen | 11/30/06 at 12:57 PM

Millen is too ignorant to know how bad he is at his job, he's also obviously too ignorant to know he needs to go NOW! Fords' need to do him a favor & fire him NOW!, else risk another Millen decision where he stays here, pretending to be an NFL general manager. Will this joke of a team ever figure this out?

I have been a lifelong Lions fan since the day I learned to talk and chew food. Over the years I have seen coaches and players come and go on to be successful elswhere. Its sad to say that the Lions Golden Era was when Wayne Fontes was coach. Please Wayne come back!

Comment by Matt C | 12/19/06 at 7:54 PM

GOOD FOR JOEY!!!
Sticking it to all the White Trash that chased him out of here. There's no room for an educated, humble, classy QB on this team.
One cheer for Jon kINTa!!!
