Oh man. Another day of rest for Verlander...probably a good thing?

I was there, It rained for a bit then stopped. It wasn't raining when the game was called!!! I guess 200 million a year doesn't include playing in the rain.

strangest thing ever. not a conspiracy theorist, but never really rained very hard in nyc. beautiful night now. were yanks afraid of potential rain delay impact on 37 yr old Mussina--if he had started then stopped.

FIRST, AS A BORN AND RAISED NEW YORK YANKEE FAN, HAVING MOVING TO THE SUBURBS OF DETROIT, I WAS AMAZED THAT THE MOST INTELLIGENT COMMENTS FROM DETROITERS WERE, YANKEES SUCK. I NEVER HAD AN OPINION OF THE TIGERS, NO LOVE OR HATE, BUT WAS HAPPY FOR THEM AND THEIR TEAM THIS SEASON, JIM L. THE MANAGER SEEMS LIKE A PRETTY CLASSY GUY. I WAS ABSOLUTELY HORRIFED TO HEAR ON THE NEWS THAT DETROIT CHOSE TO HAVE A TIGERS RALLY ON THE HIGHEST HOLY DAY IN THE JEWISH RELIGON, WHAT A SLAP IN THE FACE. LEAVE DEREK JETER ALONE AND FOCUS ON THE MORONS THAT RUN THE MOST DANGEROUS SCARY CITY IN THE WORLD- DETROIT. I AM PROUD TO BE A NEW YORKER AND SLEEP MUCH EASIER AT NIGHT.

Robin, why don't you stick to your own city's sites? We don't need your idiotic comments here. Thanks. When where the Tigers supposed to have a rally? Give me a break, really. Stop grasping at straws. GO TIGERS!!!! The Yankees make me sick. All that money, all that cockiness...I hope our boys stomp them tomorrow at 1.

Yankees Pressure Commissioner's Office To Postpone Game
Posted by on 05 Oct 2006 01:15
This is a Joke that the Yankees have so
much pull with the Commissioner's Office
that they can dictate when and if they
will play a Division Series Game
against the Tigers.
What, they are not confident enough about
winning with that lineup, they have to
pressure the Commissioner's Office for
a postponement?
Where is the Yankee class that we keep
hearing about.
It sounds more like a tactical ploy to
keep Detroit away from the weak Yankee
bullpen.
It was reported in
the NY media that a rain
delay could upset Yankee
starter Mussina's fragile
constitution and effectiveness.
That is all the more
reason to play the game
for the Tigers.
The Tigers should play this game under protest.
They were ready willing and able to play.
They cannot help it if the Yankee pitchers
are all pushing 40 and cannot pitch in a
little rain.
For a 200 million dollar payroll they
should make up the damn game
at the North Pole if they had to.
This is the epitome of arrogance.
There was no substantial rain to speak of.
They could have gotten this game in.
Even the Yankees fans at Yankee Stadium were pissed.
I have never heard of a baseball game
being called because "it might rain-----------I looked at the satellite photos"----BS.
By the way, they forgot to tell the Tigers
that the Yankees had decided to call
off the game---what a total joke.
A groundskeeper had to tell the Tigers
who were working out and ready to play.
If that does not prove some heavy bias
in favor of the Yankees by the Commissioner's Office and the National Media then I do not know what will
(maybe they will just award the Yankees the win without playing--It would not
surprise me).
The multi million dollar prima donnas in
pin stripes did not want to get their
uniforms dirty. Gimme a Break!
"It might upset their fragile rotation and
bullpen--Too Bad Deal with it.
NY Media has all but coronated the
Yankees as World Champs the last
6 years before the playoff games were even
played. Tell that to The White Sox, Red Sox, Marlins,
Angels etc...
The Yankees have not had a
title in 6 years and were eliminated in
the first round by the Angels last year.
Even George Steinbrenner, who sounds
like he actually watched game one,
stated it was a toughly fought game.
The Tigers had 14 hits and runners
in scoring position in just about every inning. A few timely hits and the Tigers
win game #1.
You would never know it if you watched or
read the New York based national sports media.

FYI - the Yankees do not have the authority to postpone a post season game. That decision is made by the Umpires and the Commissioner's Office.

Lindsey, you are obviously from detroit. the proper word is were not where. you must be proud of the detroit GED you received. i did not bash the tigers , you are the one grasping straws. its an honor to be a Yankee, I bet any Tiger would play for free for the opportunity. May the most talented team win.

Tiger Fan Report from New York:
Fret not. God will punish the Yankees for the way last night's cancellation at Yankee Stadium was so poorly handled.
(Read the NY Times' Sports section's blogs about it..)
Also, baseball trivia reminds us that when the Yankees win the 1st game of this series, they do poorly thereafter..
Furthermore, no need to be rude--leave that to New Yorkers...
My bet for this afternoon's game #2:
Tigers will win. What they need to do is to win in Detroit as well...
Best wishes to my friends and relatives in Michigan!

Never heard of a game being cancelled due to "potential" rain. I've seen games being played in pouring rain until finally being cancelled. Sounds fishy!

Such a typical response from Arrogance York....or perhaps better known as Bullseye York.....The last I knew we still play baseball in that spit they called rain. I guess it’s hard for us hicks in fly over country to understand Robin. After all Target York is the center of the universe right?

From Doug (again today) in Ithaca, NY @ 5:30 pm:
Yeah!!
Hey, Michiganders! Glad to have called this one/win for you, five hours in advance...on this blog!
Now you have to get out and move the Tigs in their upcoming Detroit games!
Hugs and prayers,
